CVS Clackmannanshire | Our Staff

Ross Paterson - Manager

Ross Paterson is the Manager of CVS Clackmannanshire, a post he has held since the organisation was set up in November 2001.

He has developed the organisation in response to the needs of the voluntary and community sector in Clackmannanshire. Ross believes that when individuals come  together and form a voluntary or communtiy organisation, we should do all we can to nourish and develop that group to do the best they can. He says he was personally influenced by his mother who as a young widow sought to create community facilities for the housing scheme in Dundee where he was brought up. He believes that his sense of community has been bred into him from her aspirations and unstinting work on behalf of her community. In his work, he follows the maxim of his first manager as a trainee manager in the construction industry - plan the work and work the plan, this has formed the basis for his work ever since. His future hopes include an aspiration that everyone involved in the voluntary or third sector can begin to act and deliver as a distinct sector seeking to work together in delivering on the shared values that bind us together as a sector in the first place.

Ross believes that the strengths of the voluntary sector are its diversity, its unique values and its proven ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances.

Lorna Fraser - Community Learning and Development Worker

Lorna Fraser's first taste of voluntary and community work came when she was at school. She befriended adults with Autism on social activities to cafés, pantomimes and other outings as well as just sitting and chatting and helping them to prepare supper. She found this to be very rewarding and also believes her experience helped her to secure her first job.

As a parent, Lorna returned to the voluntary sector in response to the social needs of her and her young daughter. She played a large part in enhancing Alloa Toddler Group through strengthening the  committee and applying for grant funding. This work led to her joining CVS Clacks as a volunteer director and the establishment of CVS Clacks in Alloa in 2001.

After two years as a director, she sucessfully applied for and accepted the post of Linked Work and Training Trainee Development Worker within CVS Clacks. In 2006, Lorna graduated with a degree in Community Learning and Development at Glasgow University.

Over the years, Lorna has worked in a developmental capacity with a number of thematic groupings including Young People and the elderly, she has also worked in Partnership with Clacks Council  and NHS to support community led initiatives.

She has helped a myriad of community groups identify their objectives and apply for funding, and has also organised a variety of community events including an International Women's Day Event and Funding Seminar.

As she has gained experience she has provided most holistic development support to a wide range of organisations."

Lorna has more recently also been working working on the Quality Improvement System of CVSC through tools such as PQASSO and then EFQM.

Ross Paterson, CVS Manager says,
"Lorna's enthusiasm, local knowledge and general youthful outlook on life have been a real boon for the CVS. She helps to keep us all organised. Sometimes it is difficult to tell who is managing who.

Lorna says, "Our voluntary and community sector has a key role to play in strengthening the general health and wellbeing of the people of Clackmannanshire. Through CVS Clacks working with the sector to provide a range of support services, together we can help to create a more sustainanable and able sector, positively responding to the needs of the local people.''
